The Deep Autumn is the darkest color type within the muted and warm Autumn palette. Its main characteristic is ‘Dark,’ with the secondary characteristics being ‘Muted’ and ‘Warm.’
Sometimes determining your color type isn’t straightforward because you may not possess all the “typical characteristics.” That’s perfectly normal. If you are having problems, try my online course “DIY Seasonal Color Analysis“.
Characteristics of the Deep Autumn:
If you need help determining your characteristics, click here.
The Deep Autumn is closest to the basic Autumn type. The main criterion is dark colors, which are usually muted. Warm undertones predominate in Deep Autumn.
Skin: neutral with a warm undertone; bronze, black, olive, warm ivory, golden beige; freckles are possible, possibly pale in winter but tans very well
Hair: black-brown, dark or deep chestnut brown, medium to dark brown with golden or yellow undertones
Eyes: dark brown, black-brown, dark Hazel Eyes, dark green, sometimes a muted dark blue

The Colors of the Deep Autumn
Colors to avoid for Deep Autumn:
Deep Autumn types should definitely avoid colors that are light. They will never be able to borrow colors from the Summer palettes. Even though the Summer types are muted, the colors would not only be too light but also too cool. The same applies to the Spring palette. While these colors are warm, they are also too clear in addition to being bright. The clear and cool colors of the Cool and Clear Winters usually do not work. These are dark in varying degrees, but both palettes are too cool and have clarity of colors as their main or secondary characteristic.
Color types from which Deep Autumn might borrow:
Deep Autumn types can borrow from Soft and Warm Autumn, as long as the colors are dark enough and not too warm and muted. In principle, all dark tones of these palettes are suitable. Colors can also be borrowed from the sister type Deep Winter palette, as long as they are not too cool and clear.

Deep Autumn Make up
The optimal Deep Autumn makeup includes dark, slightly muted, and warm colors. These should be intense in color depth but not bright. While Deep Autumn makeup can be perceived as strong on many other color types, on the Deep Autumn type, it looks natural and corresponds to its dark overall appearance with higher contrasts and rather warm colors. Avoid colors with cool pink undertones, as they are too cool for you and make you look pale. Strong gloss or shine effects unfortunately do not suit your soft transitions.
*In this post, you’ll also find product suggestions that suit your color type. Please note that there can be no guarantee that all the suggested products will universally flatter you. Often, certain features may be a little “atypical” – for example, you may be clearer or lighter than average. So, choose your favorite products from my suggestions, taking your uniqueness into account. If you’re unsure, it’s better to order sample sizes first or take my online course to find out if you’re atypical.
Foundation & Concealer
Choose foundation and concealer according to your skin tone. Deep Autumn types usually have a neutral skin tone with a warm undertone. A neutral or slightly warm shade of beige or olive often works. Foundations based on pink may not work, as they are too cool for you..
Finishing Powder
Choose a finishing powder that matches the tone of your foundation. If your favorite brand does not have neutral or warm tones, choose a translucent powder.
Bronzer, Contouring & Highlighter
Autumn types are made for bronzer. Bronzer should highlight the warmth in the skin. Since the Deep Autumn type has slightly less warmth than Warm or Soft Autumn, make sure the bronzer is not too orange. Since Deep Autumn is muted, the bronzer should not shimmer too much either. The same applies to contouring products. Instead of a specific contouring product, you can also use a powder foundation that is slightly darker than your normal one but has the same undertones. Use warmer, matte beige tones as highlighters if you want to highlight specific areas.

Eyeshadows
Use warm, well-pigmented eyeshadows that complement your appearance. Cool and bright colors can make you look quickly painted or sick. For accents, you can use the colors from the Deep Autumn color pass; for base colors, use the colors from the Neutral Colors for Deep Autumn color pass. Further suggestions can be found on the makeup card for Deep Autumn. Metallic colors usually work well because of their proximity to Winter, but avoid glittering and shimmering colors and prefer matte tones. These harmonize better with your soft appearance.
Mascara
Strictly speaking, I should recommend not using black mascara here, as it highlights the lashes very strongly. In general, this is always the purpose of mascara, so feel free to use black if you feel comfortable with it. Your best colors would be warm brown-black and a dark, ‘warm’ gray. Mascara in these colors is rarely available, however. Definitely avoid blue-black mascara and opt for deep black instead.
Eyeliner & Kohl
Eyeliner or kohl that harmonizes with your eye color is always the best choice. Suitable colors can be found on the makeup card for Deep Autumn. Avoid light, highly luminous, or cool colors. If you are a very dark Deep Autumn with high contrasts and little warmth, you can also try black. Make sure, however, that you do not draw ‘hard’ lines. So, do not use black liquid eyeliner but rather pencil or powder that you can blend easily. A ‘smudge brush’ is suitable for this purpose.
Product Recommendations for Deep Autumn Eye Makeup*
Blush
The choice of your blush depends on how dark you are. If you are a lighter Deep Autumn, orient yourself to the lighter tones. If you are a deep dark Deep Autumn, choose the darker tones. Avoid cool pink tones or blush with glitter.
Lipstick
The Deep Autumn type looks best when the lips are the focus. What may look exaggerated on other color types brings your face into harmony. Dark berry and wine tones are a good choice. Since you still belong to a muted season, lighter colors also work. I would advise against ‘Nude Lips’; they are not intense enough. However, if you belong to the lighter Deep Autumn types, you can try it.

Daytime Makeup
As mentioned with lipstick, you can wear the ‘Natural Makeup Look.’ However, it will not flatter you as much as more intense colors would. If you want to keep your daytime makeup simple, my recommendation is: apply mascara and use a paler lipstick from your color palette. As a rule of thumb, remember that you should always emphasize your lips more than your eyes.
For your daytime makeup, use colors from your palette that harmonize with your natural color scheme. However, do not use too many different colors; that would be too much and could make you look like a clown.
Evening Makeup
Classic smokey eyes, brown-black eyeliner, and darker, bold colors for the lips create a dramatic look for the Deep Autumn type. Winged eyeliner or cat eyes also work. Do not mix too many different colors here either. You can also simply follow the daytime makeup and emphasize the eyes a little more and choose a darker lipstick.

Deep Autumn Clothing and Accessories
The main features of the Deep Autumn type are its dark overall impression and high contrasts. Color selection and combination of Deep Autumn clothing and accessories should reflect and complement these main features so that the Deep Autumn type looks vibrant.
This works best with the combination of one of your neutral colors and an accentuating color from your Digital Color Palette. If you choose a light neutral color, combine it with a dark accent color and vice versa.
Unlike your sister type Deep Winter, you can also choose colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel (complementary colors). This is because your colors are muted and warm. Even those that are opposite each other on the color wheel do not have such extreme contrasts as the Winter colors.
Color Combinations Deep Autumn Should Avoid
Avoid all color combinations that have low contrasts, such as monochrome colors. Also, avoid combinations of exclusively light or exclusively dark colors from your color passes. Since you are a dark type, light combinations do not flatter you, and for only dark combinations, you have too high contrasts.
Pure white and black unfortunately do not flatter you as much. Instead, choose dark chocolate brown or very dark green and warm, light beige instead of white.
I have described which colors you should generally avoid further up.
Patterns and Prints for Deep Autumn Clothing
For patterns and prints, the same applies as for color combinations. Patterns consisting exclusively of Deep Autumn colors are best. If only a very small part of the pattern consists of a color from a disharmonious color palette, the pattern will surely flatter you as well. Avoid patterns with a predominant proportion of colors from other color palettes.
Large patterns with high contrasts look good on you, but low contrasts and delicate patterns make you look washed out. It’s best to choose stylized, natural patterns like flowers, leaves, and fruits. Retro patterns also suit you well. Geometric, precisely repeating patterns are not as ideal. Loose, large elements are better.
You can find examples of patterns and prints in your Digital Color Palette.
Appropriate Clothing
You’re best off choosing appropriate clothing with the help of a color palette. You always have your Digital Color Palette with you. Simply place it on the garment you’ve chosen and see if the colors harmonize. At first, this may be a bit difficult for you, but over time, you’ll develop a good eye for which colors match and which don’t.
For color combinations and matching patterns, my Digital Color Palette also help you further. If you want regular suggestions for clothing that suits your color type, feel free to follow me on Instagram.
Jewelry
Deep Autumn types usually have many neutral undertones, so silver and gold jewelry suit you. However, the overall undertones are rather neutral-warm, so avoid very cold silver tones. Yellow gold, rose gold, brass, and copper are best.
Since your color type still belongs to the muted Autumn types, metals that do not shine as much suit you better. It doesn’t have to be matte, but antique or hammered fits perfectly. Suitable gemstones are amber, emerald, onyx, garnet, smoky quartz, citrine, tiger’s eye, jasper, carnelian.
