Clear Spring is the clearest color type of the light and warm winter palette. Its main characteristic is “Clear,” with secondary characteristics being “Light” and “Warm.”
Sometimes determining your color type isn’t straightforward because you may not possess all the “typical characteristics.” That’s perfectly normal. If you are having problems, try my online course “DIY Seasonal Color Analysis“.
Characteristics of the Clear Spring:
If you need help determining your characteristics, click here.
The Clear Spring leans a bit towards winter. The most important criterion is the high contrast between eyes, skin, and hair with a high saturation of colors. Warm undertones predominate everywhere.
Skin: light ivory, light peach or porcelain, bronze, deep warm brown, brown-black
Hair: medium to dark golden brown, sometimes even black-brown, golden and wheat blonde, golden highlights are common
Eyes: turquoise blue, green, topaz with brown speckles, light to dark brown when there is a large contrast to the whites of the eyes
The Colors of the Clear Spring
Colors to avoid for Clear Spring:
Clear Spring types should definitely avoid muted colors. A Clear Spring will never be able to borrow colors from the Autumn palettes. Even though Autumn types are warm: The colors would not only be too muted but also too dark. The same applies to the Summer palette. These colors are light, but in addition to being muted, they are also too cool. The clear but cold colors of the Cool and Deep Winter also don’t work. Although these palettes are clear in different degrees, both palettes are too cold and have the darkness of the colors as their main or secondary characteristic.
You can theoretically wear black because the Clear Spring is close to winter, but warmer coal black and dark, greenish gray tones suit you better. It’s similar with white: you can wear it, but off-white suits you better.
Color types from which Clear Springs might borrow:
Clear Spring types can borrow from Light and Warm Spring, as long as the colors are clear enough. Colors can also be borrowed from the palette of the sister type Clear Winter, as long as they are not too cold. Here, surely all shades of red, petrol, and green come into question.

Clear Spring Make up
The optimal Clear Spring makeup includes clear, well-pigmented, and warm colors with very high contrasts to each other. While it might be considered excessive on many other color types, on the Clear Spring type, it looks natural and complements their clear overall appearance with very high contrasts and rather warm colors. Avoid colors with blue undertones as they are too cool for you and can appear unnatural.
*In this post, you’ll also find product suggestions that suit your color type. Please note that there can be no guarantee that all the suggested products will universally flatter you. Often, certain features may be a little “atypical” – for example, you may be clearer or lighter than average. So, choose your favorite products from my suggestions, taking your uniqueness into account. If you’re unsure, it’s better to order sample sizes first or take my online course to find out if you’re atypical.
Foundation & Concealer
Choose foundation and concealer according to your skin tone. Clear Spring types usually have a neutral to warm skin tone. A neutral or warm shade of beige, ivory, or porcelain with peach undertones often works well. Make sure the undertones are not too yellow.
Finishing Powder
Select a finishing powder that matches the tone of your foundation. If your favorite brand doesn’t offer neutral or warm shades, opt for a translucent powder
Bronzer, Contouring & Highlighter
The darker earthy contouring shades are usually too dark for your fair skin. Bronzer is also not a typical Clear Spring product. Since the Clear Spring type doesn’t have as much warmth as the Warm Spring or Autumn types, use bronzer sparingly. Opt for light peach tones with yellow undertones or very light gold. For darker skin, you can try a medium gold. Preferably use a highlighter in a neutral to slightly warm shade if you want to highlight specific areas.

Eyeshadows
Use neutral to warm, well-pigmented eyeshadows that complement your appearance. Cold and soft, muted colors can make you look painted or sick quickly. For accents, you can use the colors from the Clear Spring color palette, and for base colors, use the colors from the Neutral Colors for Clear Spring color palette. Avoid very matte colors. You can find further suggestions on the Clear Spring makeup card.
Generally, your eyes are very bright and intense. Therefore, be careful not to use too much intensely pigmented eyeshadow, as that would be too much.
Mascara
Your best choice for mascara is dark gray or taupe or coal black. These create the necessary high contrast without attracting too much attention. However, “regular” black also works well for you.
Eyeliner & Kohl
An eyeliner or kohl that harmonizes with your eye color is always the best choice. You can find suitable warm-neutral colors on the Clear Spring makeup card. You don’t need to be cautious; all bold colors suit you. I would advise against black; it’s too harsh for you. Instead, opt for a dark gray.

Blush
The choice of your blush depends on how dark you are and whether you are more warm or more neutral-warm. If you’re a lighter Clear Spring, go for lighter salmon and berry tones. If you’re a darker Clear Spring, choose the darker tones. For warmer skin tones, the top three salmon tones are suitable, and for more neutral skin tones, the berry tones.
Lipstick
Bold lip colors are perfect for the Clear Spring type. What may look exaggerated on other color types brings balance to your face. Tomato red, cherry red, magenta, and pink are your choice. Avoid “nude lips”; they are not intense enough. Also, too dark and cool tones like plum and burgundy do not suit you. Opt for glossy or shimmering products rather than matte colors.

Daytime Makeup
Your natural look has little to do with a “natural makeup look.” This usually involves working with muted colors and little contrast to each other. Instead, choose at least one very clear color that contrasts greatly with the others – preferably for your lips. As a rule of thumb, you should emphasize your eyes and lips about equally. Focusing only on one area would upset your natural harmony.
For your daytime makeup, use colors from your palette that harmonize with your natural color scheme. However, don’t choose too many different colors; that would be too much and could make you look like a clown.
Evening Makeup
Not too dark smokey eyes with the gray and taupe tones from your makeup palette, dark eyeliner, and bolder colors for the lips create a dramatic look for the Clear Spring type. Again, don’t mix too many different colors. You can also simply orient yourself to daytime makeup and emphasize your eyes a bit more or choose a bolder lipstick.
You can learn how to put together clothing, accessories, and jewelry suitable for your color type below.
Clear Spring Clothing and Accessories
The main characteristics of the Clear Spring type are the very high contrasts and the clear colors. The color selection and combination of Clear Spring clothing and accessories should reflect and complement these main characteristics to make the Clear Spring type look lively.
This works best when you combine the colors of your color palettes that are opposite each other on the color wheel. Your choice, therefore, is complementary colors.
You can also combine “just” dark colors with light colors, but very high contrast suits you better.
Color Combinations Clear Spring Types Should Avoid
All color combinations that have low contrasts to each other, such as monochrome and analogous colors, are not suitable. Monochrome is “tone on tone,” analogous colors are adjacent on the color wheel.
You should also avoid the combination of exclusively light or exclusively dark colors from your color palettes. The necessary contrasts are also missing here.
I have described which colors you should generally avoid further up.
Patterns and Prints for Clear Spring Clothing
For patterns and prints on Clear Spring clothing, the same applies as for color combinations. Patterns that consist exclusively of Clear Spring colors are best. If only a very small part of the pattern consists of a color from a disharmonious color palette, the pattern will surely flatter you as well. Avoid patterns with a predominant proportion of colors from other color palettes.
Large patterns with very high contrasts between the colors suit you best. Low contrasts and delicate patterns make you look washed out. It’s best to choose playful, creative, and geometric patterns like dots and circles. Anything that looks hand-painted works great too. Patterns that repeat exactly or are very small are not so ideal. It’s best to choose not too loose, larger patterns or abstract prints. If you like floral or nature patterns, choose stylized ones instead of natural representations.
You can find examples of patterns and prints in your Digital Color Palette.
Appropriate Clothing for the Clear Spring Type
You’re best off choosing appropriate clothing with the help of a color palette. You always have your Digital Color Palette with you. Simply place it on the garment you’ve chosen and see if the colors harmonize. At first, this may be a bit difficult for you, but over time, you’ll develop a good eye for which colors match and which don’t.
For color combinations and matching patterns, my Digital Color Palette also help you further. If you want regular suggestions for clothing that suits your color type, feel free to follow me on Instagram.
Jewelry for the Clear Spring Type
You usually have many neutral undertones, so silver may also suit you alongside gold jewelry. The most important thing is that the jewelry shines. Matte, brushed, or antique metals do not match your clear appearance. Very suitable are: gold, rose gold, and possibly white gold & silver.
Suitable gemstones are diamond, ruby, emerald, amethyst (not too cool).
